Brothers drive grandfather’s old rover 2,500 miles across Europe in his memory

Two brothers from Pershore, Nick and Alex, are set to take on a 2,500-mile journey across Europe in their late grandfather’s beloved Rover 45, affectionately named Roger, to raise additional funds for the Peony Room at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

Peony Rooms are available at Worcestershire Royal Hospital and Alexandra Hospital, funded entirely by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, provide private, peaceful spaces away from busy hospital wards for patients nearing the end of their lives to be with their immediate family. It’s a facility Nick and Alex’s family deeply valued when their grandfather lost his battle with cancer in November last year.

This isn’t the brothers’ first time tackling the quirky Screwball Rally, but it will be their most meaningful. Their grandfather loved following their previous rally adventures and often said he’d like to see his old Rover join the challenge. Though he’s no longer here to see it, Nick and Alex are honouring his wish by driving Roger the Rover all the way to Austria in his memory.

Nick said “Grandad always loved watching our past rallies and would often say we should take part in one using his old Rover. When he left Roger to me in his will, it felt like the perfect opportunity to honour both his wish and his memory”.
