HPB or Upper GI nurses

Request:

Hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) clinical nurses serve patients with complex and life-threatening malignant and benign pancreatic and biliary diseases. They work in a variety of geographical areas, specialist services and at different levels of practice. They may have different job titles, for example HPB or Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) or HPB or Upper GI Advanced Nurse/Clinical Practitioners (ANP/ACP) or HPB or Upper GI Nurse Consultant.

Whilst the value of clinical nurse specialists (CNS) and advanced nursing roles is well recognised in the management of long-term conditions and cancer, there is no published data to support the specialist work performed by HPB nurses. Recently the British Society of Gastroenterology and the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland commissioned a joint project which aims to map the professional scope of HPB nurse roles in the UK and Ireland. This scope will be used to inform future competency frameworks for clinical practice. The project includes a national survey for HPB nurses. We would like to identify how many HPB nurses are currently employed in NHS services so that we can map the current national workforce and compare this to response rates to the survey.

How many HPB or Upper GI nurses (including CNS/ANP/ACP/Nurse consultants) are currently employed at the Trust?
