FOI REFERENCE: 24379   FOI DATE: 20th September 2024

Request:

It is lawful for providers of NHS services to refuse to provide treatment where a patient’s behaviour constitutes as discrimination or harassment, or abusive violent or threatening, towards staff. Please can you tell me the number incidences where your Trust has refused treatment in the last five years?

Response:

2021 – 2022                Data not available

2022 – 2023                * for abusive violent or threatening behaviour

2023 – 2024                * for abusive violent or threatening behaviour

2024 to date                0

NB. The refusal to provide treatment does not exclude life or limb preserving emergency treatment; this is still offered.

*This relates to low numbers between 1 and 5. Under section 40 (ii) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, statistically low numbers that potentially identify personal data are required to be withheld because of the Trusts obligation to protect personal data under the Data Protection Act 2018
