Paediatric Allergy Respiratory and Cystic Fibrosis Team

Nicki is a Respiratory Specialist Nurse for Children and Young People. On qualifying in 2010 Nicki spent some time working in a tertiary centre, moving to Worcestershire Acute Trust in 2014.  During her time at WAHT Nicki has worked on Riverbank ward and in Children’s Clinic. She has been part of the CF/Respiratory team since 2017, and has a specialist interest in Asthma.

As part of her role, Nicki is a chair for the West Midlands Paediatric and Allergy Nursing Group (WPRANG), and on a usual work day she reviews children and young people with Asthma/ viral induced wheeze on Riverbank ward and nurse-led clinics. Nicki works closely within the CF/Respiratory team doing testing (Spirometry & FeNO) and teaching during consultant CF/Respiratory clinics.

Clare has been a Consultant Paediatrician at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust since 2009. She is the clinical lead for Respiratory Paediatrics and Cystic Fibrosis in Worcester, and she is most proud of setting up the Respiratory and CF MDT in Worcestershire.

Her particular interests are cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis and sustainability. In clinics she will be talking to patients and families, examining patients and arranging plans for treatment. She also works some on-call shifts on Riverbank ward, so you may see her in the admissions unit or on ward rounds.

Phoebe is the allergy Specialist Nurse for Children and Young People.  She qualified in 2005 and has worked at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Bristol Royal Hospital for Children where she was an immunology and infectious diseases nurse specialist.  Phoebe has been working as an allergy specialist nurse since 2016 and has also worked in allergy at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.  Phoebe has a Masters in Public Health and also undertaken additional training in allergy.   

She is a member of the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology and is on the national committee for both the Paediatric Allergy Working Group and the Nurses in Allergy Committee. 

Phoebe will see patients in a nurse led allergy clinic and also support the consultant led clinics.  Phoebe performs the oral food challenges in hospital and administers immunotherapy treatment.

Jo is the specialist respiratory physiotherapist in the paediatric team. She qualified in 1998 and has predominantly worked in respiratory care throughout her career. She joined Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust in 2002, working on the adult respiratory wards and intensive care across the Trust before joining the Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis team in 2015.

Since then she has developed the physiotherapy role within paediatrics and has a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice from the University of Birmingham.

Jo is involved with a variety of paediatric respiratory conditions and works as part of the clinical team to manage conditions such as Cystic Fibrosis, bronchiectasis and asthma. She is also present on Riverbank ward for in-patient admissions.

Lucy qualified from the University of Birmingham in 2009, and trained in a number of different hospitals in the West Midlands, including with the respiratory team at Birmingham Children's Hospital.  She has worked at Worcester since 2018 and has a special interest in paediatric respiratory medicine, especially asthma.  Lucy also works on call in general paediatrics on Riverbank Ward and the neonatal unit.

She is also involved in developing the transition service for young people moving from paediatric to adult care, a has a keen interest in Simulation as part of teaching, and promoting well being.  Lucy is also a bit of a Disney and Harry Potter fan, and can often be found on adventures with her 2 children.

Alex  is a Respiratory Specialist Nurse for Children and Young People working in the PARC team having a special interest in Cystic Fibrosis. After qualifying, in 2002 Alex worked on intensive care at Birmingham Children’s Hospital for 15 years.

Before moving to Worcestershire Acute Trust in 2020 Alex worked as a respiratory and then cystic fibrosis specialist nurse in Birmingham.  She has also spent 3 years as a research nurse supporting a research study looking at wireless monitoring in children.

As part of Alex’s role she reviews children and young people with Asthma/ viral induced wheeze on Riverbank ward and review patients in nurse led clinics. Alex works closely within the CF/Respiratory team and carries out lung function and FENO testing during consultant and nurse led clinics. Alex also supports families and children with multiple respiratory conditions in their home, school and while in hospital.

Dr Paul Watson is one of our Paediatric Consultants who has specialist interest in Respiratory and Allergy, and is our Lead for Asthma in the Trust.

He qualified in 2008 from the University of Birmingham, and went on to work in many hospitals in the West Midlands, including on the respiratory team at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

He started as a Consultant at Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust in 2018 and whilst doing respiratory and allergy clinics, he also works on our Neonatal Unit, and is RCPCH College Tutor.

Paul tries and fails to keep fit, he enjoys sport (more watching than playing these days) and follows Queens Park Rangers Football Club.

Dr Dawson has been a Paediatric consultant at WAHT since 2009 in allergy; developing a diagnostic clinical allergy and immunotherapy service providing immunotherapy, non-specific immunotherapy for urticarial and food/drug challenges.

In 2014 Dr Dawson obtained an MSc Allergy from Imperial College, London.  He continues to be actively involved in research (being the hospital’s paediatric lead) and writing articles. He has also spoken at local, national (BSACI 2023) and international meetings.

He is chair of the Midlands Paediatric Allergy Group and the Three Counties Allergy Group.  He is a member of the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI) Registry for Immunotherapy (BRIT) committee, an innovative registry for monitoring the efficacy of immunotherapy nationwide.

Dr Dawson is also active in the Joint BSACI and Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and Standards Group which is developing standards for paediatric allergy services across the UK.

Ezgi joined Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust as a Paediatric Consultant in 2024. She spends her time in allergy and general paediatric clinics, and on call on Riverbank ward.

Ezgi qualified from the University of Birmingham in 2010. She undertook her paediatric training in the West Midlands, with a six month rotation out of programme experience in Malawi working as a paediatric registrar. She has completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and successfully passed the EAACI Paediatric Knowledge Exam in Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
