Used in the investigation of carcinoid tumours Carcinoid syndrome associated with flushing of face, diarrhoea, a rapid heart rate and wheezing. Sent if positive screen at Hereford or monitoring known carcinoid patient.

24h urine collection for 5HIAA patient information leaflet: https://staging.worcsacute.mixd.co.uk/patient-information-and-leaflets/documents/patient-information-leaflets-a-z/2780-24-hour-urine-collection-for-5hiaaCheck pH of sample. If pH >4 then add 50% HCl drop-wise until pH <4. Measure volume.
