This test is not routinely available. Please contact Clinical Biochemistry if required. Diagnose cranial diabetes insipidus in a patient with polyuria and normal plasma osmolality, using the hypertonic saline infusion test.

Guidelines

Pre-analytical

ADH is extremely labile in plasma and blood should be drawn into a previously chilled syringe and subsequently transferred into chilled lithium heparin tubes kept on ice. Samples for ADH must be accompanied by sample for serum sodium and osmolality
