Test information

FRESH specimens are essential and all specimens should be sent to the laboratory immediately after collection. Ensure that all specimens are fully labelled with patient’s identification. Should be placed in a cytolyt tube, available from WRH lab EXT: 39625

Cytology samples are kept for 2 weeks post authorisaition – Requests for additional examinations on the same primary sample must be requested prior to this.

Guidelines

If transport is delayed, or out of laboratory hours refrigeration is preferable. Any materials used in taking these samples must be discarded in an approved clinical waste or sharps container.
