Test information

FNA is a specialised technique requiring experience in aspiration, smear preparation, and interpretation. Skilled technical assistance may be available by prior arrangement with the Laboratory when aspiration is performed by radiologists (only available mon-fri 9-3:30, via arrangment with the lab on Ext 39625).

Cytology samples are kept for 2 weeks post authorisaition – Requests for additional examinations on the same primary sample must be requested prior to this.

Any materials used in taking these samples must be discarded in an approved clinical waste and/or sharps container.
