Test information

Specimens should be collected into a Dermapak collection kit. Alternatively, if these are not available, in folded paper squares secured with a paper clip and placed in a plastic bag or a plain universal container. If it is impossible to obtain a skin scraping then clear adhesive tape can be pressed against the lesion, peeled off and placed sticky-side down on a glass slide. These should then be transported to the laboratory in suitable slide containers. Scrapings, clippings and plucked hairs should be plentiful and representative. Separate packets should be used for different sites. Tests performed in a UKAS Accredited Medical Laboratory No. 8873.

Samples can be kept at room temperature prior to transport to the laboratory.Any materials used in taking these samples must be discarded in an approved clinical waste and/or sharps container.
