Pre-analytical

All specimens should be sent in accordance with the Pathology Policy for the Transport of Specimens (PO-U-GEN-Transport of Specimens)Storage is in accordance with the Policy for the Control of Clinical Material (PO-U-MIC-CtrlClinMat)Dry swabs are unsuitable for the recovery of fastidious organisms. If processing is delayed, refrigeration is preferable to storage at ambient temperature. Delays of over 48h are undesirable.Any materials used in taking these samples must be discarded in an approved clinical waste and/or sharps container.
