Guidelines

Pre-analytical

As large a sample as possible that fits into a sterile 30ml universal container. Specimens should be collected aseptically in sterile universals with a small amount of sterile normal saline to prevent dessication. Containers must NOT contain or have previously contained preservatives.Any materials used in taking these samples must be discarded in an approved clinical waste and/or sharps container.Compliance with postal and transport regulations is essential (Refer to Pathology Policyfor the Transport of Specimens (PO-U-GEN-SpecTransport).Specimens should be transported and processed as soon as possibleIf processing is delayed, refrigeration is preferable to storage at ambient temperature.Delays of over 48h are undesirable
