Test information

Used for the biochemical diagnosis of Coeliac disease, and monitoring of known patients.

In addition to TTG, IgA levels are also measured, to exclude IgA deficiency as possible cause of low IgA-TTG. If low IgA levels are seen (<0.2 g/L), then sample is referred for IgG-TTG analysis.

Guidelines

NICE NG20: Coeliac disease: recognition, assessment and management (2015)

Pre-analytical

If using for diagnosis of coeliac disease, ensure patients on gluten containing diet: ‘eat some gluten in more than 1 meal every day for at least 6 weeks before testing’ (NICE NG20)
