Test information

To investigate disorders of copper metabolism Copper is normally excreted in bile and so an increase in urinary copper occurs in Wilson’s disease and to a lesser degree in cholestatic liver disease. 24h urine copper pre and post penacillamine chelation may be required.

For investigation of Wilson’s disease plain 24 h urine required. (For lab: record volume and send to referral lab in plain universal)Random urine only for acute toxicity and occupational exposure NOT for Wilsons
