Sophie Klobcar, Apprentice Administrator (Maternity)

I joined the Trust and started my Apprenticeship in March 2020. I have enjoyed many aspects of my Apprenticeship so far including working in a close-knit team, developing my knowledge in administration and improving my confidence. I have also enjoyed getting to know medical professionals and how the world of Maternity works.

I have learnt the importance of communication and team work and understand the benefits it can have on our staff and patients at the Trust and the significance of providing training. I have worked with my team to create new Covid proof training sessions to ensure staff are still receiving their essential training. An example of where I have put patients first is when I co-ordinate PROMPT training for Midwives, Consultants, MSW’s and Anaesthetists. This training includes important education of emergency scenarios which directly affects the care that our patients receive.

I have had to overcome my worries of being independent and making decisions by myself. This includes answering telephone/email queries. I now feel confident enough to manage the office by myself and make decisions regarding Maternity Training. I am proud of the PROMPT training that I am responsible for. I organise all staff, training rooms, faculty and online training to ensure the day runs smoothly. I am proud of the turnout we have had since the new Covid sessions began in October 2020 and the feedback I have received has been excellent.

I went to university in September 2019 and decided it wasn’t for me but joining the Maternity Training Team has been the best decision I made. I encourage anyone who is thinking about an apprenticeship to give it a go. Just because you didn’t go to university, doesn’t mean you can’t achieve the same end result in the long run and apprenticeships can help you to do this.

Looking to the future, I would love to continue my career in the NHS once this Apprenticeship is completed later this year. Until that time I will continue to work hard, study hard and support my team to the best of my ability!
