Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity celebrates two years of a remarkable partnership with Worcester City Runs that has raised over £15,000.

Patients across Worcestershire will benefit from more than £15,000 worth of improvements across the county’s hospitals thanks to the funds raised for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity by those taking part in the Worcester City Runs.

Over the last two years, the Charity has partnered with Events of the North as the official charity partner of the Worcester City Runs. During this time, over 80 runners – including hospital staff, their family members and friends – have participated in this race for the charity which raises money for patients and staff across the Alexandra, Kidderminster, and Worcestershire Royal Hospitals. Community members and corporate sponsors have contributed as well. It is this sponsorship that enables the Charity to provide enhancements, additions, and added extras that can make the working day easier, the service more comfortable, and the patient experience better at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

This money has contributed and will continue to contribute to many improvements across several services, including those provided by specialist charity funds. These include the Children of Worcestershire Cancer Fund, which assists patients, their families, and loved ones. In addition, the Millbrook Suite Fund at Kidderminster Hospital and Treatment Centre.

The funds raised have also supported crucial initiatives, including enhancing End of Life Care facilities providing comfort to patients and their loved ones during difficult times. For example, the Peony Room at Worcestershire Royal Hospital received significant upgrades, and bereavement bags were introduced to improve personal effects return to grieving families.

Money has also been used to support the NHS Rainbow Badge project, which trains staff to better support LGBTQ+ patients and colleagues. A grant has enabled qualified staff to receive badges to signify their commitment to being allies and to creating an inclusive environment across the county’s hospitals.

Sophie Burt, Head of Fundraising and Community Development at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, expressed gratitude for the enormous support received during the last two years. She said: “We are immensely proud of what this partnership has achieved. It is through the dedication of our runners and the generosity of our supporters that we have been able to make a real difference to the lives of patients and their families, as well as hospital staff.”
